Dec. 2 – SPACENITE 2 – A Tribute to Bill Mantlo
Tue 16 Nov 2010
In December 2007, the first SPACENITE exhibit and fundraiser was a huge success. Contributors included: Al Milgrom, Walt Simonson, Brandon Graham, Corey Lewis, Danijel Zezelj, Gordon Wiebe, Guy Davis, Jeffrey Brown, Kevin Hooyman, Maureen Gubia, Peter Thompson, Renee French, Ron Rege Jr, Ken Garduno, and more than 100 other artists from around the world. Together we raised money for Bill Mantlo, who wrote all of the ROM comics and was tragically paralyzed in a hit and run accident over 15 years ago.
This December I’m proud to announce our second and final ROM Spaceknight tribute show for Bill Mantlo.

I have once again curated artwork from dozens of artists based around the theme of ROM Spaceknight, the first comic that I ever read as a kid in the 80s. It’s safe to say that if it wasn’t for ROM there wouldn’t be a Floating World Comics today.
I have reached out to artists and illustrators outside of the comics industry which has led to a variety of styles and interpretations of this iconic cult character. We will have digital prints of the artwork available for sale at the opening. The original artwork will be auctioned at the end of the month on eBay. 100% of the proceeds go to Bill Mantlo.
We will also publish a book of the ROM artwork in 2011.
Make a private donation to the SPACENITE – BILL MANTLO FUND directly from your Paypal account. 100% of the funds go to Bill’s brother and caregiver, Mike Mantlo:

Is there an email list or some way to be notified when the auction starts? Also, is there a way to buy prints online?

I created a thread on my forum, http://www.statuemarvels.com, to let folks know about the great thing you are doing for Bill! The thread can be found here…

Thanks for the information Jason I’m really happy to contribute to the auction and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all goes. If I ever find myself in Portland again I’ll make sure to visit Floating World. I went a head and made a posting about the auction and also gave Floating World a plug on my ROM blog: http://www.romspaceknightart.blogspot.com

Hey I have a ROM drawing I did a while ago, I will be willing to donate it if you are interested. It’s around 8.5×11 inches ink and markers.
