Germany, 1768 - Luther Levy is not your average grad student.  He has an eccentric mixed-faith family, a rebellious attitude and a nose more suited for pecking at trees than browsing through old books.  He’s also the subject of Family Man Volume 1, the new graphic novel from webcomics creator Dylan Meconis.

Luther has plenty of troubles at his new university lecturing job, beginning with the mysterious, rifle-toting librarian and continuing with her protective father… Luther’s new boss. Throw in the eerie pagan rituals happening off campus and you have the first volume of this extraordinary and literate novel.

Floating World Comics, Ninkasi Brewing, and Voodoo Donuts present:  BRUTAL BEAUTY DVD RELEASE PARTY WITH ROSE CITY ROLLERS

Roller derby is an American contact sport that has seen a nationwide revival in recent years. Brutal Beauty: Tales Of The Rose City Rollers tells the story of Portland, Oregon’s league, the Rose City Rollers. For more than a year and a half, an embedded film crew documented the thrills and spills of derby life.

Through unlimited access to team bouts, practices and the private lives of the players, Brutal Beauty puts the viewer on the inside track to this high-contact, and sometimes dangerous, sport. In their own words, the Rose City Rollers tell how roller derby saved their souls.

Seven of the Rose City Rollers will be in attendance at this release party to meet fans as well as director, Chip Mabry.  We will also have the new Jam: Tales From the World of Roller Derby anthology published by Oni Press available for sale.  The party is sponsored by Ninkasi Brewing who will provide beverages.

Before making a name for himself with Marvel Comics’ Invincible Iron Man and Uncanny X-Men, Matt Fraction was blowing readers minds with his creator owned series, Casanova.  The series centers upon renowned thief Casanova Quinn, who gets “blackmailed into being a pawn and double agent in a global game of super-espionage”.  It will appeal to fans of Michael Moorcock’s Jerry Cornelius stories with a cascade of alternate universes and polymorphic sexuality.

The first two volumes, Luxuria and Gula, were originally published by Image Comics and illustrated by the Eisner award winning team of Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon.  To celebrate the move to Icon (Marvel’s creator owned imprint) each of those first 14 issues will be remastered and reprinted in double sized, full color issues.  Once readers have caught up on the story the long anticipated third volume, Avarita, will finally see the light of day.

On Thursday, July 8th, fans will have a chance to meet Matt Fraction and pick up a copy of the new remastered version of Casanova #1.

Relettered, remastered, and in full and furious color, this is Casanova the way it was meant to be experienced,” explained Matt Fraction. “Everything I’ve done at Marvel has been a trick so they’d actually let me do Casanova here. Ha ha! They can’t take Eisners back, right?”
