Q: Where are you located?
A: Downtown Portland, on 5th Ave just north of Burnside, 20 NW 5th Ave. Across the street from Upper Playground. Same block as Ground Kontrol and Backspace.
Q: What are your hours?
A: Everyday 11-7pm. Also we’re going to be open late every Wednesday (new comics day) until 10pm to do movie nights! Call for schedule: (503)241-0227
Q: How much is this book?
A: I think… thirty… oh! $24.95.
Q: Will you ship to Canada?
A: Sure.
Q: What is this?
A: Oh ‘Diamond Comics’, that’s an art comics newspaper that I publish. I sell them for $3 here, but they’re also FREE all over town at bars and coffeeshops.
Q: But I thought?
A: Shhhhhh.
Q: Are you ever going to collect all those Rom Spaceknight posters in a book?
A: Yep, I’m thinking December 09.
Q: When is Marvel going to bring Captain America back?
A: Ed Brubaker said as long as he’s writing the book he will NOT bring Captain America back. But once he’s off the book, who know?
Q: What’s that one anime about the kids?
A: Tekkon Kinkreet!
Q: Do you have Watchmen?
A: Yes!
Q: What music is this playing?
A: Sounds a bit like Pilooski, it’s on the shuffle… lemme check. Yes, it is Pilooski.
Q: Do you do subscription boxes?
A: Yes, you’ll get a 10% discount. Just buy everything in your box and if you need to cancel, try to give a couple months notice if possible since I order in advance.
Q: What’s the best comic coming out right now?
A: Are you reading Criminal? All Star Superman? Walking Dead is a great series to get addicted to. Army @ Love is my favorite new Vertigo series.
Q: I haven’t read any comics in a long time. I want to get back into Marvel or DC, but it all seems so confusing…
A: All of Bendis’ Avengers stuff leading up to Secret Invasion is good. And I’m a huge Grant Morrison fan. I like his Batman and All Star Superman, and he’s doing Final Crisis which is a big DC book right now, but it’s a little weird. If you’re looking for something more normal Geoff Johns is doing some great work on Action Comics, Green Lantern and Justice Society. Brubaker is kicking ass at Marvel with Daredevil, Criminal and Captain America. All of Millar’s new stuff is great: Wolverine, Kick Ass, War Heroes, and I know this sounds weird but he actually made the Fantastic Four sexy.
Q: I just read Watchmen do you have any more?
A: I think Planetary by Warren Ellis is the closest anyone’s come to the post modern superhero greatness of Watchmen. If you want some more Alan Moore try League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V For Vendetta, Top 10 or Swamp Thing.
Q: How long has this store been here?
A: Two years.
Q: Do you like it?
A: Yes.
Q: Do you buy comics?
A: Sometimes we do. We don’t deal as much with back issues but we like buy used graphic novels and more like alternative stuff.
